The First Orthodox Film School

Do you enjoy beautiful films?

In January of 2022, the Theoria College of Filmmaking, under the auspices of St. Athanasius College, will launch its inaugural class of students. A four-month program in the Houston area, Theoria will focus on the timeless art of filmmaking through studies in screenwriting, acting, and directing. (View the introductory video) The Associate Dean and Primary Instructor is five-time Emmy Award Winner and Orthodox Christian Jonathan Jackson.

This innovative school is undergirded by the philosophy that "beauty will save the world" (Dostoevsky). Students will learn techniques, styles, and approaches that transcend time. The following are course titles for the four month program:

"Approaching the Mystery of Art"

"Acting in the Spirit"

"Parables of Light, Part One: The Art of Screenwriting"

"Parables of Light, Part Two: The Art of Directing and Filmmaking"

"The Mystery of Music in Film"

"Camera Boot Camp"
