Rev. Father Matthew Howell
Reverend Matthew Howell is married to Khouriyeh Anastasia Howell and with her has five children: Luke, Hannah, Emma, Lydia, and Kassiani.
Having grown up in the Antiochian Archdiocese at Saint Athanasius Orthodox Church in Sacramento, California, Fr. Matthew took classes from the Saint Athanasius Academy of Orthodox Theology as a teenager. In the summers during high school, Fr. Matthew also helped organize the Academy’s massive library while its headquarters were in Elk Grove, California.
He graduated from Saint Tikhon Orthodox Theological Seminary in 2011 with a Master of Divinity with Distinction in Pastoral Arts and Praxis. He then returned to his home in Eagle River, Alaska where he served as a deacon at Saint John Orthodox Cathedral from 2011-2013. From 2011-2019, he worked as a licensed mortgage loan originator assistant for Alaska USA Mortgage Company in Eagle River. As of June 2019, he now works for Project Mexico assisting with organizational development and marketing.
He is a priest of the Antiochian Archdiocese of North America. He has been the pastor of Saint Herman Antiochian Orthodox Church in Wasilla, Alaska since his ordination to the holy priesthood on September 7, 2013. He was tonsured a reader and ordained through the ranks of the clergy by the hand of the same hierarch, His Eminence, Metropolitan JOSEPH, who has been his bishop in the Diocese of Los Angeles and the West since Fr. Matthew was 11-years-old.
He also volunteers for the Orthodox Church Capital Improvement Fund as a member of their Loan Committee.
